HUMMELS WHARF, Pa. - The first season of Goucher College women's golf ended on a high note on Sunday, as the Gophers finished third as a team at the inaugural Landmark Conference Championship, which was played at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club over the last two days.
In the event, the Gophers finished with a team score of 816 (404-412) to place in third and finish 17 shots ahead of fourth place Scranton. Marywood surged in the final day of competition on Sunday to take the Landmark title, finishing with a 787 (397-390) as a team to best second place Drew, who finished with a total score of 798 (387-411).
Individually in the event for Goucher, first-year Christina Pevey (Post, Texas) posted yet another score of 93 to finish in third overall in the event (93-93: 186).
Not far behind Pevey in the event was teammate and fellow first-year Emmie Starchvick (Jacksonville, Ore.), who fired the third lowest score of the afternoon on Sunday (89) to finish fifth (101-89: 190).
Rounding out the top performances for the Gophers was first-year Lauren O'Leary (Potomac, Md.) who placed in a tie for 12th (105-105: 210).
The completion of the Landmark Conference Championship completes what was a successful opening season for the women's golf program. The team finished in the top five of each event they played in throughout the Fall and Spring, finishing a season-best third place as a team on four different occasions.
